Sunday 4th June 2017 - 7pm - Bridge House and the Penge Festival Present "TAKE A TRANCE ON ME."

After amazing audiences for years with his groundbreaking show 'Strictly Come Trancing', Ben Dali, the top UK Hypnotist of the 21st Century returns with a brand new fully immersive hypnotic experience. 'Take a Trance on Me' invites audience volunteers to be hypnotised live on stage, before re-enacting a range of hilarious hypnotic sketches inspired by contemporary culture and set around your local area. From performances on Penge High Street to haunted houses and our very own unforgettable Penge Got Talent, 'Take a Trance on Me' is a game-changing show where the audience is the star.  During the show you will be presented the opportunity to volunteer to take part, or enjoy watching your friends, families and strangers behave in ridiculous (but never humiliating) ways from the comfort of your seat. Friday 9th June 2017 - 7:45pm - Bridge House and the Penge Festival Present "JO HARROP'S - ORIGINAL DIVAS OF JAZZ."

Bridge House Favourite, Jo Harrop, performs a very special show - for one night only she does a very special set only accompanied by Dave Chamberlain on the guitar. This is a chance to experience pure jazz from a great performer with a rich and captivating voice.

During the evening she will sing songs from the true Divas of Jazz - including Peggy Lee, Anita O'Day & Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday, Nina Simone & Dinah Shore - so it guarantees to be an amazing night of music, with some classic 'torch songs' and memories that will last forever.

Friday 16th June 2017 - 7:45pm - Bridge House and the Penge Festival Present "WALTER DE LA MARE'S LANGUAGE OF MUSIC AND MYSTERY: ."

Join us for our annual talk on Walter De La Mare (who just happened to live in Penge for 25 years) by Chris O'Shaughnessy, this years talk concentrates on this internationally-famous poet and all things mysterious and supernaturalwho just happened to live in Penge for 25 years.

De la Mare’s poetry and short stories won many awards for excellence and his work is slowly coming back into fashion via the internet and the publishing house, Faber. ’The Listeners’ was once judged Britain’s
favourite poem and was written while living in Worbeck Road, Anerley. De la Mare’s ghost stories have been broadcast and filmed.

How did de la Mare evoke the mysterious? And exactly why was he attracted to this topic? The talk will try to answer these questions and will be given with a linking recital of poems by experienced readers.

At the end of the evening, Giles de la Mare, the poet's grandson, will present the prizes for the winners of the Penge Festival Poetry Competition.

You may want to follow up the talk/recital by going on the Walter de la Mare walk the next day.  Meet outside the Moon at 10.30am and visit the houses where the poet wrote much of his best work.

Thursday 15th June 2017 - 7:45pm - Bridge House and the Penge Festival Present "PENGE REVISITED: HIDDEN TREASURES."

After 2 years of delving into old films of Penge, this years Penge Revisited takes a new twist, looking at the Hidden Treasures of the area.

Revisit, with archivist Lucy Allen, some of the people, places and open spaces of Penge through a selection of rarely seen treasures from Bromley Historic Collections.

Get up close and personal with photographs, volumes, maps and more to discover about the items themselves and what they reveal about Penge’s past.

The evening will include the opportunity to see archive items in person and to learn more about how the material is collected, preserved and made accessible.

Lucy Allen is an archivist at Bromley Central Library with a special interest in the history and heritage of Penge. Lucy presented the two previous Penge Revisited evenings (with Film London) during the Penge
Festivals of 2015 and 2016. Both were sell-out shows so don’t miss this one: ‘Penge Revisited’ with a difference! Looking at and learning about archival treasures encourages awareness of Penge’s rich heritage and is a good preparation for the forthcoming Penge Heritage Trail.

Wednesday 21st June 2017 - 7:30pm - Bridge House Film Society Present “I, DANIEL BLAKE"

Bridge House Film Society are pleased to present a special screening of one of, if not the best film of the past year in the multi award winning, I, Daniel Blake.

Daniel Blake, 59, who has worked as a joiner most of his life in the North East of England needs help from the State for the first time ever following an illness.
 
He crosses paths with a single mother Katie and her two young children, Daisy and Dylan. Katie’s only chance to escape a one roomed homeless hostel in London is to accept a flat some 300 miles away.

Daniel and Katie find themselves in no-man’s land caught on the barbed wire of welfare bureaucracy now played out against the rhetoric of ‘striver and skiver’ in modern day Britain.

Sunday 18th June 2017 - 7pm - TWO by Jim Cartwright - A gala semi staged performance for the Bridge House.

This years charity performance for the Bridge House brings 2 West End Stars George Maguire (Olivier Award Winner & Another Night Before Christmas) and Julie Atherton (Avenue Q) to the venue for a one off semi staged performance of Jim Cartwrights fantastic dulogue Two as part of this years Festival. All Profits go to the theatre.

This extraordinary tour de force show criss crosses the life's, loves and dramas of an ordinary pub....Tonight! Not 1,000,000 miles away from the Bridge House, we meet the landlord & landlady, the regulars, the locals, and one or two strangers! All roles are played by our 2 wonderful actors.  

This one off special semi staged production is brought to you by the same creative team that produced Another Night Before Christmas, A Christmas Carol More or Less , Thrill Me, The Last Session and Its A Wonderful Life. 'Last Tango In Penge' by Paul Harris:

An interactive dramatized history of popular dancing, through the lens of Penge.

Paul Harris, award winning international Choreographer and creator of the wand combat language for the Harry Potter films, uses his background as British and U.K. Ballroom and Latin American champion to bring the extraordinary story of popular dance, and how and why Peggy Spencer put Penge at the heart of a pop cultural phenomenon. Using one of the World's current top ranked Youth Ballroom and Latin dance couples, and you, the people of Penge, Paul brings this extraordinary story to vivid life.
